Welcome to Northern Illinois University (NIU) Motorsports webpage.  NIU Motorsports is a group of undergraduate engineers that engineer, design, manufacture and race a Formula One style race car. We are a part of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

    NIU Motorsports team is a unique group of students determined to build a winning Formula SAE car. Being on the Formula SAE team provides members with an experience of more than just designing and building a car.  Members also gain knowledge in management, team work, marketing, cost analysis, communication and business. A lot of these skills are not developed in the regular classroom environment and that's what makes NIU Motor Sports team Special.

    The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) hosts a competition for students from 140 of the top universities worldwide to design, fabricate, and market a formula style racecar. This project requires participants to apply and improve upon principals learned in the classroom, and challenges their leader-ship, business and concurrent group skills. This intense, highly publicized event is overseen by Ford, General Motors, and Daimler Chrysler, enticing all who long to work in a field related to automobile engineering and racing.
