ATTENTION

Mini Baja is a collegiate engineering competition in which students design and build an off road vehicle for competition. The competition is designed to use the intuitive design of students in order to win, rather than more power or money. The car is designed around a stock Briggs and Stratton ten horsepower engine and a 71 page rule book.  This forces students to think of a creative chassis, suspension and drive train in order to win at competition.

Competition is based on a points system, with different sub categories.  These competitions are based on Appearance, Design and Engineering, Cost Effectiveness, Braking, Speed and Acceleration, Hill Climb, Maneuverability, 4 Hour Endurance Race, and a Rock Crawl. This year the NIU Mini Baja Team finished 32nd out of 104 teams at the BAJA SAE Washington competition.  Official results can be found at the SAE website.
