Welcome to Northern Illinois University (NIU) Motorsports webpage.  NIU Motorsports is a group of undergraduate engineers that engineer, design, manufacture and race a Formula One style race car. We are a part of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

    NIU Motorsports is a unique group of students determined to build a winning Formula SAE car. Being on the Formula SAE team provides members with an experience of more than just designing and building a car.  Members also gain knowledge in management, team work, marketing, cost analysis, communication and business. A lot of these skills are not developed in the regular classroom environment and that's what makes NIU Motorsports special.

    The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) hosts a competition for students from 140 of the top universities worldwide to design, fabricate, and market a formula style racecar. This project requires participants to apply and improve upon principals learned in the classroom, and challenges their leadership, business and concurrent group skills. This intense, highly publicized event is overseen by Ford, General Motors, and Daimler Chrysler, enticing all who long to work in a field related to automobile engineering and racing.
